This Privacy Policy explains what information Memokiwi (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects when you visit blog.memokiwi.com (the “Site”), why we collect it, and what choices you have.
The Site is a blog. It has no accounts, no sign-up, and no comment form, so the amount of personal information involved is deliberately small. You can read every article without telling us anything about yourself.
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us directly:
- Your email address and the contents of your message, if you choose to write to us. We only receive this when you send it.
Information collected automatically when you request a page:
- Standard server access log entries, which include your IP address, the browser and operating system reported by your user agent string, the URL you requested, the referring URL if your browser sends one, the HTTP status of the response, and the time of the request.
We do not ask for your name, we do not build a profile of you across visits, and we do not run advertising or third-party analytics scripts on the Site.
2. How We Use Information
- to deliver the pages and images you request;
- to keep the Site available and secure, including detecting and blocking abuse, and diagnosing errors and performance problems;
- to understand aggregate traffic patterns, such as which articles are read and where requests come from, in a form that is not used to identify individual readers;
- to reply to you, if you have written to us.
Under the GDPR, where it applies, our legal basis for processing access logs is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the Site, and our legal basis for handling email correspondence is our legitimate interest in answering the person who contacted us.
3. Cookies and Local Storage
The Site sets no cookies. It does not use tracking pixels, advertising identifiers, or browser fingerprinting, and it does not store anything in your browser’s local storage. Interface state such as whether the sidebar is open lives only in the page you have open and is gone when you close the tab.
Fonts are served from our own domain rather than a third-party font service, so loading a page does not disclose your visit to a font provider.
4. Service Providers
We use a small number of providers to run the Site. They process data on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service:
- Google Cloud, which runs the servers that serve the Site and generates the access logs described above, and which also stores the articles and the images used in them;
- Zoho, which hosts the mailbox that receives messages you send to us.
If you subscribe to our RSS feed, the feed reader or service you use will fetch it on your behalf. That service has its own privacy policy, which we do not control.
5. Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We disclose it only to the service providers described above, when required by law or by a valid request from a public authority, or when necessary to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
6. Retention
Server access logs are retained for up to 90 days and then deleted or aggregated into statistics that cannot be linked back to an individual. Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up, and is then deleted.
7. International Transfers
Our providers may store and process data in countries other than the one you live in, including outside the European Economic Area and outside the Republic of Korea. Where such a transfer takes place, we rely on the safeguards offered by the provider, such as standard contractual clauses.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, and to receive a copy of it in a portable format. Readers in the Republic of Korea have these rights under the Personal Information Protection Act, and readers in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have them under the GDPR.
To exercise any of these rights, write to hello@memokiwi.com. Because we do not link access logs to an identity, we may need more information from you to locate the records you are asking about, and in some cases we may be unable to identify them at all. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. Children
The Site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 14. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS, and access to our servers and databases is restricted to authorized personnel. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we revise the effective date shown with this document. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will make that clear on the Site.
